We swarmed the mind-boggling array of culinary delights as though we'd never seen food before. By the time we finished gorging ourselves, we could barely walk out of the restaurant.
Unfortunately, our restaurant experience reflected my lifestyle at the time: excessive possessions, commitments, goals, and desires. While our house had reasonable storage space, our belongings had expanded from the attic to the garage and beyond. My daily calendar was filled with back-to-back meetings for church and other ministry functions and civic groups. And they all had to be woven around family and work! My cluttered life left me no significant time to spend with God, and fractured my family time. But I had no clue how to begin creating more physical, emotional, and spiritual space in my life.
Then, one morning I read in my Bible, "Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions" (Luke 12:15). I'd never considered myself greedy, yet my home was filled with more clothes than I ever wore, more dishes, books, gadgets, and knickknacks than we ever used. Was God telling me to simplify my overcrowded existence?
I thought of a church family who'd adopted a Romanian girl. She'd spent her first five years in an orphanage, and after living in America for a few months, her new father asked her how she liked it.
"Oh, Daddy!" she said, laughing. "I love America. In Romania we had no stuff. But in America WE HAVE STUFF!"
Like the little girl, I liked my stuff, but if God saw my excess as greediness, it needed to be eliminated.
I immediately set to work to declutter my house, only to find my stuff had a stronger hold on me than I'd realized. So I focused on the area of my greatest excess: my closet. I love shoes and owned more than 50 pairs. The thought of parting with any of them was painful. First, I boxed up all but one pair of each color and moved them to the garage. That way, if I went into shoe withdrawal, I knew where to get a quick fix.
To my surprise, once the shoes were out of sight, I never thought of them again. So I did the same with my clothes and accessories. I boxed them up, moved them to the garage, then eventually passed them on to a secondhand store.
The more spacious my closet became, the stronger my sense of freedom grew. Before, when my alarm clock went off in the morning, the first thing I faced was a jumbled closet. It made my day feel jumbled before it even started.
After the successful closet campaign, I advanced the battle to the bathroom, cleaning out makeup drawers (why have six tubes of lipstick when I only wear one?), medicine cabinets, and cleaning supplies. I started severely limiting the array of choices in my home.
I was shocked at how much time had been devoured by the upkeep of all these unnecessary possessions. My growing sense of freedom and time was exhilarating!
My next step was to limit my shopping excursions. Most of my excess was the result of casual shopping. Going to the store for a jug of milk, I'd return home with a pair of sale earrings from the drugstore next door. Now I limit myself to shopping once a week for groceries, household supplies, clothes—everything. One shopping trip a week doesn't leave much time for casual shopping.
My success at decluttering made me take a hard look at the other areas in my life. My calendar was chronically overbooked with too many commitments. A critical, prayerful look at my commitments showed me ones that were unnecessary. I resigned my position in a local speaking organization and looked for other things to prune from my schedule, asking God to guard the time I freed up, filling it only as he directed.
I also listed the things of greatest importance to me. To my surprise, my list was short; it consisted entirely of people, not goals or dreams or possessions: my husband, my sons, my family, and friends. I realized that no matter how fulfilling a career is, it's temporary. But my relationships as a wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend remain—and deserve more attention. I pray God will help me never to become more committed to temporary things than to the permanent relationships in my life.
By creating material and physical space, I automatically created more emotional space, but I knew that to keep that space intact, I needed to take more deliberate steps.
In his book Margin, Dr. Richard Swenson recommends planning pauses into each day. He suggests doing things that force you to slow down, such as choosing the longest line at the bank or grocery store instead of the shortest. This has been the hardest habit to develop! I seem driven to find the shortest line and feel stress building when another line moves faster than the one I'm in. Forcing myself to step into the longest line and relax still requires great effort—but I'm learning.
Another way I've created emotional space is by taming the stress promoters in my day. Since we operate a business from our home and the telephone rings incessantly, my greatest source of stress was the telephone. My stomach always coiled in a knot from the constant interruption of this necessary evil.
One day it occurred to me that I behaved as though I had to answer every call. So I started letting our answering machine take over when I didn't want to be interrupted. At first, I felt guilty about ignoring calls, but it so completely diffused my stress that I soon forgot about my guilt.
Along the way I've learned other ways to create emotional space: a brief walk or a few moments of solitude behind a closed door. Talk show host Oprah Winfrey encourages viewers to create emotional space by keeping a gratitude journal in which they list five things they're thankful for every day. These simple actions promote a shift in attitude that keeps troubles in perspective so they don't affect me negatively.
Finally, I knew I needed to declutter my spiritual life. Much of my time is devoted to "spiritual things"; I speak to Christian groups, write for Christian publications, work in women's ministry, and serve with an international missions organization. But as important as all this Christian stuff is, it becomes sin if it crowds my relationship with God. I must never allow anything to interfere with that.
I can only maintain that all-important relationship by spending a significant amount of time alone with God each day. If I don't build space into my days to allow my relationship with God to mature, I'll never be able to maintain a healthy amount of physical and emotional space.
It's been two years since I first began decluttering my life. It hasn't come easily; it cuts against the grain of my natural desires. When a store advertises a huge sale, I still find myself getting in my car—even though I don't need anything. An invitation arrives in the mail that I long to accept—even though it will steal time from my family. My struggle to maintain physical, emotional, and spiritual space is ongoing, but the rewards of my perseverance are as enticing as that giant food buffet we encountered on vacation: a serenity, order, and satisfying sense of God's approval. It's impossible to accumulate too much of that kind of stuff.
Mayo Mathers is a TCW regular contributor who lives in Oregon.
"Too Much Stuff." TODAY'S CHRISTIAN WOMAN. It's called The Drop Ship Source Directory. We also publish the Internet's Leading Directory of genuine Wholesale Suppliers who will sell to you in small Bulk Quantities, while still giving you larger Bulk Quantity prices. That's called The Light Bulk Wholesale Directory. As a result of the information we research and publish, we get questions all the time about what products Home-based Internet Business owners should try to sell online.

I’ve been at this for years, and have become very successful in my Internet business. But let’s face it, folks. If I knew what was going to sell well on the Internet tomorrow, next week, or next month, I wouldn’t be writing this article. I would have retired and purchased a small private island by now. In the retail business, whether you are online, in a physical store in the local mall, or at a roadside stand, it makes no difference; choosing the products you are going to sell is always the hardest part of getting started.
I can’t whip out a crystal ball and tell you what to sell. However, I can tell you about the biggest mistakes that I see new Home-based Internet businesspersons making, all the time.

Too many people are fixated on four things:

• Selling only products they like.
• Selling only products they know a lot about.
• Selling only products they think are “Cool” or “Sexy”.
• Selling only products they think “The Hottest Products on the Internet”.
I get four basic emails from people who are stuck in this rut, and I can pretty much tell that right off the bat, by the way the email begins.

• An Email from a person who only thinks they can sell what they like starts something like this:

“Dude, I’m like, a Sk8ter, and I need to find a Wholesale Supplier for, like, Sk8tboards + wheels + stuff”.

The first problem this person is going to run into (aside from the fact that he needs to learn how to write a business email!) is a problem for all four types of people here. There may not be a Wholesale Supplier for the products they want, that will work with a Home-based Internet Business. We’ll talk more about that in a few minutes, though.

The second problem is “tunnel vision”. This person may actually find a Wholesale Supplier for “sk8tboards + wheels + stuff”. If he does, great. However, someone who has such a narrow vision of the Internet Marketplace will never branch out and fulfill his own potential in that Marketplace.

Say he does find the Wholesale Supplier he’s looking for, and opens a store. Because of the narrow vision that led him there, he’s likely to stick with that store, and that store alone. He’ll make some money, but unless he gets really lucky, he won’t make a really good income out of it. He’ll piddle along selling “sk8tboard” stuff forever, when he could have done so much more.

What he needs to do is broaden his scope. If he’s interested in “sk8ting”, wonderful. But instead of focusing on just that, he should explore selling all kinds of sporting goods.
Sam Walton, the revered Founder of Wal-Mart, was once a starting quarterback on his High School football team in Columbia, Missouri. He also liked to play basketball. Can you imagine what would have happened if Sam Walton never tried to sell anything besides football and basketball equipment? There would probably be a pretty big store in the US selling just footballs and basketballs today, because Walton was a very good retailer. But it never would have grown to the size and scope of Wal-Mart today if Sam had allowed tunnel vision to crowd his overall view.

It’s okay for our “sk8ter” buddy here to open an Internet store or run Auctions that sell skateboard equipment. Niche marketing is a good thing. But in his overall business, he should look for other products with which to eventually run other Online Stores or Auctions as well. One store leads to two, two lead to four, and so on. Never get stuck limiting your entire business to just one type of product!

• An Email from a person who only thinks they can sell what they know about goes like this:

“Hey there;
I’ve been riding horses all my life, and I own a small stable where I teach riding. I’m opening an Internet Store where I’m going to sell all kinds of stuff that other riders will want to buy. I’ve got to find a Wholesale Supplier for saddles and Western Wear and such”.

Again, this person’s first problem is going to be that he may not find a Wholesale Supplier of the products he knows so well, that's willing to work with Home-based Internet Businesses. But, we’ll get to that in a bit.

His second problem is similar to the first person’s problem, but not exactly the same. This person isn’t fixated on selling only what he likes; he’s just a little bit scared of having to learn about something new. He’s obviously going where he feels safe. That’s okay, but let’s remember what I’ve mentioned twice so far: he may not find a Wholesale Supplier for the products he likes. Genuine Wholesale Supplier do not grow on trees, folks, and most of those who are out there do not want to work with Home-based Businesses. There isn’t one available to you for every possible type of product. It’s very important to keep that in mind when you start out!

So, what does this person need to do? He needs to understand that being in business is about learning new things every day. New ways to market, new software to get used to, simpler ways to do his monthly books, etc., etc., etc. Learning new products is just as critical. Again, never limit your business to just one type of product. You don’t have to like what you sell. You just need to make money selling it!

• An Email from a person who only thinks they can sell what’s “Cool” goes like this:

“Hi;
I’m looking for a Wholesale Supplier of electronics, like MP3 Players, Plasma TVs and such. Please tell me where to find them.”

A request for Wholesale Supplier of electronics is a dead giveaway. Almost everybody who starts a Home-based Internet Business wants to sell electronics at first. It’s the Cool, Sexy market, and even if you never sell anything, you can show your friends your site and say, ‘Dude, I can get you an Xlent deal on the hottest new stuff!

Electronics, like any other Cool or Sexy market on the Internet, is not the place for most people to start. That market is absolutely flooded with other people who already had the same idea, and the profit margins have plummeted. Why? Too many inexperienced Internet sellers. They start price wars, figuring they’re going to clean up by undercutting everyone else’s prices by a little bit. Problem is, the second guy comes along and undercuts the first one a bit. Then the third person comes along and undercuts the second. And so on.
Pretty soon all you have left are tens of thousands of people trying to sell electronics for pennies more than what they pay for them, just to advertise a slightly better price than their competition.
Not good.
The person who wants to sell Cool and Sexy stuff needs to understand that they are not out here to look Cool or Sexy. They’re here to make money. Four Slice Toasters and Propane Camp Stoves aren’t sexy, but they sell and their markets are not overcrowded, and that’s what the goal is.
• Finally, an email from a person who thinks they need to sell only the Hottest Products on the Internet goes like this:
“Hello;
Can you tell me were I can find out what the Top Selling Products on eBay are? I want to know what everyone else is selling and get in on it.”

BAD IDEA!

Look at it this way. If you were in a giant field filled with nothing but concession stands selling Salted Peanuts, what’s the smartest thing you could do? Set up yet another Salted Peanuts stand, or set up a Lemonade Stand?

I’d sell Lemonade, wouldn’t you? :o)

In our business, we look at the Lists of Top Selling Products on the Internet, too. Then we run the other way as fast as we can. We don’t want to be just another face in the crowd selling the same thing as everyone else. We want to think about products that may be complementary to the Hottest Sellers, that not many other people are selling.

If everyone and their Grandmothers are selling Salted Peanuts, we want to be the ones selling Lemonade. :o)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BIOGRAPHY: Product Sourcing Radio is Created and Hosted by Chris Malta and Robin Cowie of <a href="http://www.worldwidebrands.com/?kbid=19855"target=_blank>World Wide Brands, Home of OneSource: The Internet's Largest Source of Genuine, Factory-Direct Wholesalers for online sellers. <a href="http://www.worldwidebrands.com/1/?kbid=19855"target=_blank>Click Here for more FREE E-Biz & Product Sourcing info!

A Review - Cash Crate -

Being a Work At Home Mom I am constantly looking for new avenues for making money from home.

My latest find.... A Review of Cash Crate

Cash Crate
allows folks to sign up free. Once you complete your registration information you are up and running. You just click on which survey you want to complete, fill out all info and then click on Submit. You have just made MONEY! That Easy!

I only spent a couple of minutes just messing around and made $26.65 and 6 points. I realize that is not much money, but I wasn't even TRYING to make money.

WoW! I bet if I was actually trying to make money I would at least be able to bring in enough to buy that new pair of shoes or dress I have been wanting. Maybe even a shopping spree for Back To School Supplies or Clothes??!!

I don't think you will become rich from this program. I, although, do think that you can make enough money to "tide" you over for other expenses. I think I will go back and try it seriously and use the money to cover my advertising expenses for my business.

I think that I might even add it to my Work At Home Ideas website at Mommie Town....

One word of caution ~ As with any filling out Any Surveys ~ It is a Great Idea to get an extra "survey" email. You will get a LOT of emails, and most you won't want to bother with....

I highly suggest Cash Crate for making some Extra Money!

Thank you, and God Bless You and Yours.

Bobbi ~ MommieTown.com

Putting The Service Back in Customer Service

Putting The "Service" Back In "Customer Service"

By Sean Cohen

The future of customer service is here. Technology
has made seeking out support faster and easier than
ever. But, has your digital age company sacrificed
true service in the name of automation?

Today, finding customer support is as simple as
writing an e-mail or picking up the phone. But, even
though you're not face-to-face with your customers,
you still leave a lasting impression. Do you come
across as caring and competent, or menacing and
mechanical?

Offering stand-out service on the Internet isn't as
hard as it is rare. Take these simple steps
towards old-style service in the digital age:

Give Each Customer a Personal
Response
Be Clear, But Sincere
Offer Live Customer Support
Make Sure Your Support Reps Have
All the Answers

Give Each Customer a Personal Response

When a customer sits down to e-mail your
company, it's because he needs help. He chooses
e-mail because it's quick, but his request still
warrants a satisfying and personal response!

Companies eager to save time and money often
take automation too far in their customer
support. Each customer has a unique question,
and deserves a unique answer. Even if you save
time by copying and pasting stock replies,
change the opening and closing to make the
message sound less robotic.

Be Clear, But Sincere

When responding to customers' e-mail, be sincere
and to the point. Before sending a message, try
turning the tables. Ask yourself, "Would this
answer satisfy me if I were the
customer?"

Take that extra moment to give your customer the
help he deserves. It might mean the difference
between a satisfied customer and a credit card
chargeback!

Offer Live Customer Support

E-mail has become an acceptable form of
communication. But, live customer support is
still necessary. The plethora of information
available online can be overwhelming to
customers, especially those new to the Internet!

Single your company out from the crowd by
providing customers with a real person to talk
to. Live phone support is an invaluable way to
foster trust. When your customer has reached the
end of his Internet rope, and just needs help,
your toll free number is the answer he's looking
for.

Make Sure Your Support Reps Have All The Answers

The presence of phone support will do no good if
your staff doesn't know your product! Customer
support reps should be warm and friendly, and
willing to help with any aspect of your product.

What a good feeling it is to talk to someone who
feels confident in his product. It's even better
if he's knowledgeable enough to solve your
problem without transferring you all around the
company!

Provide Stand-Out Service; Gain Lifelong
Customers

Too many e-businesses skimp on customer service,
hiding behind web sites and message boards.
Customer support is an integral part of every
company, even those operating solely online. Be
one of the few to offer stellar service, and
gain customers for life!

Customer Service is becoming a lost art, but Sean
Cohen wants to make sure that never happens at
AWeber Communications!
Find out what service is meant to be.

Marketing POWER Newsletter - Free -

Marketing Power is the free weekly e-mail tips newsletter from Leaders Club. Why not take it a step further?

Earn money from selling and marketing other people’s products and services. This is one of the BEST ways to earn a living from home. It is easy and can be very lucrative if done right. If you are ready to leave the constant struggle behind then follow these steps. You will be on your way to financial freedom into time. Become an affiliate for only the best companies for FREE!!

Step 1: You will need a website, host, and domain name. (You will list all your affiliate programs on your site) The best way of doing this is by signing up with a good ready made site. The TOPS creator has put together a great profit pulling site. You will receive some of the best training around and a basic website. You can sign up for FREE! I can’t say enough about this program. It’s wonderful.

I recommend Ipower Web as the host. The customer support is wonderful and so is the user console, which is called the vdeck. By far, one of the best hosts I have come across. Make sure to pick a domain name that has to do with your business. Your account at Ipower Web comes with a Free domain name. They are very cost effective.

Step 2: Sign up as an affiliate with 10 to 20 different programs. A word of caution, though, is careful with which companies that you sign up with. A lot of companies out there are not as reliable as others. Sign up with ONLY well researched and proven companies.

Remember to keep them in the same type of category. For example, if you make a Work At Home site then list programs that offer working from home options. Some of these could be Top Online Profits (TOPS), Ignotious, Mint Jobs, Legit Online Jobs, Mom Execs, Data Entry Business, Typing At Home. Keep it consistent.

Some others are Internet Marketing Center (IMC), and Strong Future International (SFI). My Top Picks are TOPS, SFI and IMC! They are reputable, reliable, and fantastic money makers. Sign up in their affiliate section. Then in your affiliate member account area you will find a marketing area. I suggest you mainly use text ads on your site. This may help over with search engine placement better than just placing banners on your site.

Step 3: Now you will need to market, market, market. I was about to have my first child and the doctor put me on "bed" rest. I lost my job and my husband, Brad & I lost part of our household income. We were buying our first home together. We could get by with my husbands income, but I still wanted to contribute to the finances. So, I decided to venture onto the internet. I had only been on the internet maybe once or twice before.

I was a complete "newbie" to the online scene. I did a search for selling, earn money on the internet, work at home, home based business, and opportunities. I about fell over when I saw all the "offers" that were listed. I was overwhelmed to say the least. I had to figure out what avenue I was going to follow. Looking back, I wish that I had chosen a different path ~ the one I am on now...

I decided to sell products online. I became a member of SMC and had thousands of products that I could sell. They really are a wonderful reseller's resource. They didn't have the Affordable Payment Plan that they offer now. I wanted to stay away from any and all direct sales opportunities. I had, in the past, tried to sell Avon and Mary Kay. I was not very good at it. Been there ~ Done that! And it didn't work, at least not for me.

Next, I had to figure out to make a website. Boy was that foriegn to me. I didn't even know what html was! Thank you Jesus, I already had Frontpage on my computer. Although before that I didn't realize what it was for. Talk about being clueless! I worked many long hours developing a great site. Creating an eccomerce site was not as simple as it is today! I even signed up with Landmark Merchants and got completely taken advantage of and scammed out of thousands of dollars by them. I would highly recommend staying FAR away from them. I ended up sending the terminal back and STILL owed the thousands to them. Worst business decision I have EVER made.

I bought a domain name and transferred to my host and shopping cart. I decided to go with a host that had a built-in Paypal Shopping Cart. That worked out well. They are a wonderful way to accept credit cards. Although, Office Max and other places like that now have software for accepting credit cards. They are pretty nifty! I named my online business, Gift & Leather. I already had the gifts to sell from SMC, now I needed to find the leather. I found out that I needed to apply for a Federal Tax ID Number in order to apply to wholesale companies, if I didn’t want to use my social security number. Once I had that, I began searching for the wholesale and dropship companies. I applied to be a reseller for them. I picked four different ones with a variety of styles.

The business went well and grew. I kept the site up and running for about 3 ½ years. The business paid for it’s advertising, hosting, and brought in a profit. Then it happened…
A trend of returns began in the Fall. The business became way more hassle than it was worth. I started loosing money with returns. I ended up closing it down. I decided to try multi-level marketing (MLM). I worked MLM for about a year. I tried Formor, Melalueka and Prepaid Legal. I guess some people can make money with MLM, but it sure wasn’t for me. I met some Great and Wonderful people, but working it was just too difficult. You need to buy so much each month in order to qualify and stay in the program. I loved their products, but I didn’t need them every month. It became too expensive for me with no return for my investment. Unless you know a lot of people and are already established, it will be very difficult to succeed with multi-level marketing.

I decided to take a “break” from working at home and got a full-time job. My husband had just lost his job that he had for the past eight years. God blessed me with a job just in time. I became employed by Oregon Medical Group (OMG) as the Human Resource Assistant. My hours were 8:30am to 5:00pm with an half hour lunch. The Lord blessed me with this job for a little over a year. They wanted me to memorize the names of physicians just so the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) could walk by me and quiz me about their names, what they specialized in and their locations. I didn’t have any contact with them and it was very difficult for me to do this with over 100 physicians in the group. I wish they had asked me about the staff – that I could have answered. I worked my tail off for that company and always with a smile. I was let go, which is just a nice way of saying “fired”, in April of 2007. They had the nerve to tell me that they would give me unemployment, my back vacation, and two weeks severance pay if I stayed another week to train a replacement. That stung and felt very degrading, but I needed the money so I agreed. They told everyone that I quit. I wasn’t going to lie for them so that they could save face and told those that approached me that they let me go. In the corporate world it’s all business and not much humanness.

My husband received a job about a year ago, so we decided that I would stay home with the kids for the Summer. I really didn’t want to go back to work for anyone else. They just have way too much control over our lives!

In May I began again researching and searching for the RIGHT work at home job idea. I knew that I didn’t want to deal with returns, wholesaler, direct sales or MLM. I had, before heard a little about affiliate programs and jobs that you can actually apply for and complete at home. So…I found them.

I have, in just a few short months, established myself as a Christian Work At Home Consultant. I offer my consultation for free. I own and run MommieTown.com. I am amazed at all the scams out there. It is terrible that people find it necessary to scam others for their gain. I will offer only partner with reputable and proven companies. I have done the research, so that you don’t have to. MommieTown.com offers resources for Tying At Home, Data Entry, and other companies that will pay you to fill out surveys or fill out forms for them. Ignotius offers a variety of online jobs, such as, virtual assistants, typing, answering service, data entry, word processing, and transcription.

If I ever find that a business I have listed in my directory has scammed anyone or is shady in any way, I will withdraw my partnership with them immediately. I have grown this business on Christ centered ethics, truth, and respect. I have been blessed for it and don’t plan to stop now.
Truly, none of these work at home jobs will make you rich. However, you will be able to make some extra money in your spare time. Depending on how hard you are willing to work you could earn a nice couple of thousand each month. Obtaining a job at home is a fine way of making money from home, it is just, in my opinion, not the best way.

The absolute BEST way to earn a living online is to make residual. Have you guessed what I am talking about yet? Becoming an affiliate with businesses for FREE! You sign up with a business as an affiliate. You then market that product or service they are selling. When the product or service sells you earn yourself a nice little commission. Many offer residual earnings off your affiliates that have signed up under you. It is not too much work and the money is VERY nice. It also grows fairly quickly.

Be careful though. As with anything, there are affiliate programs to be cautious of. There are programs out there that you could be waiting months before you get paid, if ever. If they do pay you on time the amount is measily. Don’t waste your time and effort. Go with ONLY the BEST. You will find them at MommieTown.com.

Success is for those who dare. You MUST believe in yourself for others to believe in you. ~ author unknown.

*To be successful with being an affiliate it is best to create a multiple income stream website, such as with TOPS. You join for FREE, and you get your own Work At Home Directory website. You will receive The BEST training and support around!*

Once you sign up FREE with TOPS then you will need to sign up with some of the most proven and successful companies out there, such as Strong Future International (SFI). This is, of course, also FREE to join. You will receive fantastic training for starting, working and growing your business. You can either make money from referring people to the SFI business or with people buying their products from your own Veriuni Store. It really is FANTASTIC! They offer coffee, tea, health products, cleaners, pet products, magazines, and business resources.
I have only been in business now for a few short months and it is growing by leaps and bounds. It just goes to prove that you will receive back as much as you want to put into something. I have worked this business and it is giving back tenfold.

I hope that my journey has helped you in yours. If you have any questions or just need a little help in pointing the right way on your Work At Home career path, Email Me. And then it happens…they cry, they fuss and you have no idea what it is they want. What’s worse is that for the next 13 to 15 months you’re going to have little clue why this new beautiful bundle of joy is upset. But do you really have to wait that long?
“Research has shown that while babies may lack the fine motor skills to speak, they do have the ability to understand and use language as early as 6-7 months. And given the right guidance, they have lots to say - with their hands.” Says Diane Ryan, Kindersigns founder, a certified speech and language pathologist, and an expert when it comes to teaching babies sign language.
So what does this mean exactly? Is Diane telling us that we don’t have to wait until our babies are talking for us to know what they want? This almost sounds too good to be true.
I decided to do a little research and see if this was really possible. I talked with Jill Paron-St. Louis who has a 17-month-old son named Nathan. Nathan has been signing with his mom since he was 10 months old.
Even before Jill was pregnant with Nathan she knew she wanted to teach her baby to sign. Jill graduated with a sign language communications degree in 1994, and was teaching hearing impaired children. Jill explains, “I knew when I eventually had children, that I wanted them to learn how to communicate in American Sign Language. It is a wonderful language and I wanted to introduce it to them out of interest, and if by chance they ever met a child in school one day, they could communicate through Sign Language.”
While Jill was pregnant with Nathan she also started to read many articles about the benefits of teaching hearing babies to sign. She learned that there were many more benefits to signing to a pre-verbal baby than she had ever realized. The only problem was she had no idea how to actually go about teaching signs to her son. She found out about a business opportunity that could teach parents how to sign to their babies and jumped on the idea.
Jill started teaching Nathan to sign when he was ten months old. She didn’t know what to expect at first or how long it would take for him to learn. She says, “I started teaching my son to sign at 10 months, I remember after about 8 weeks thinking he just wasn't getting it. I couldn't help but think I was doing something wrong, but I stuck it out and after 10 weeks of teaching him, he signed back to me! While sitting in his high chair he signed that he wanted "More Cheerios!!" I was so excited!”
Since that first “More Cheerios” sign, Nathan hasn’t stopped signing. He is 17 months old and knows 30 signs and is learning more every day. Besides the signs, his vocabulary is incredible. He now knows about 75 words. Jill explains, “He is a very happy and calm baby. The only times he really gets frustrated is when he can't have something he wants. Otherwise, he is able to tell me what he wants without any frustration. If he's thirsty, or tired, or hungry, or wants me to read him a book he tells me. It's just amazing!!!”
Jill has been able to get her whole family involved too. Her husband and parents, who are 65 years old, have learned sign language so they could talk with Nathan too. Jill says, “This experience has been extremely rewarding for us all!”
Not only has this been an incredible experience for Jill’s family, but she has also been able to create a very rewarding business as well. She is now able to teach other parents to sign to their babies. When Nathan was about 14 months old and was signing back to Jill on a regular basis, Jill felt confident to start teaching other parents. She started her business called, Baby Signers.
Jill held her first baby-signing workshop in May of 2005 at a woman's home and then followed that by giving a private class for her and three of her friends. “I left feeling confident and proud with the information I had given them,” Says Jill. Four months later Jill taught another six private workshops and five public ones with more classes scheduled. She estimates that she has already taught between 65-70 people how to sign to their babies. “It is extremely rewarding and I often get emails from people letting me know that their babies have started to sign back,” Explains Jill.
This business has been perfect for Jill. “I love the freedom that Kindersigns gives. We are able to say that we have been trained by them, but still have complete control over all our marketing and pricing, and in just four months I have made a name for myself,” Says Jill, who is very excited about the future of her business. She hopes to have more babies of her own to teach this special way of communication as well as many new clients down the road.
You don’t need to have to have a degree in sign language or be a speech therapist to teach sign language to parents. Kindersigns will certify you and you’ll be on your way to owning your own business very soon.

To receive more information for free CLICK HERE!

An Idea For Working At Home

An Idea For Working At Home

There are so many ways to make money at home, such as:

Direct sales, making your own gift baskets, create all occasions cards, sew and sell hand bags.

Start a cleaning business. Start a daycare. Pet sitting, house sitting. Construct your own furniture. There is So Much more you CAN do...

The best way that a person can earn a living in the Work At Home arena is Online Marketing as an affiliate of proven companies. Become an affiliate of reputable programs, such as the ones http://www.MommieTown.com offers and market them on your website, forums, blogs, newsletter, and in articles.

Becoming an affiliate, or publisher as we are also known as, is a wonderful way of generating income online. There is no inventory, or returns to deal with. You make commissions on sales, and there are actually pretty high commissions out there.

I would watch out for the affiliate online "farms" that are out there. Some programs will not bring in signers. Plus IF they do, you may not earn but a measly commission.

It is best to find the programs that have been thoroughly researched and have a proven track record.

Programs can consist of businesses for data entry, typing, paid surveys, and other affiliate programs.
